Short Description

A process of adding new material to the inner surface of a denture to improve its fit and comfort due to gum and bone changes.

Long Description

A reline is a dental procedure that improves the fit of a denture by adding a new layer of acrylic or soft material to its inner surface. Over time, the gums and jawbone naturally shrink, causing dentures to become loose and uncomfortable. Relining helps restore a snug fit without needing a completely new denture.

There are two types of relines: hard relines, which use a long-lasting acrylic material, and soft relines, which use a flexible material for added comfort, especially for patients with sensitive gums. The procedure can be done in-office or in a dental lab, depending on the extent of adjustment needed.

Regular denture maintenance, including relines, ensures proper function and prevents gum irritation. Dentists recommend relining every few years to maintain a secure fit and improve the wearer’s comfort and chewing ability.
