Short Description

The soft, living tissue inside a tooth containing nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue, responsible for tooth nourishment and sensation.

Long Description

The pulp is the innermost part of a tooth, consisting of soft tissue that contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. It plays a crucial role in tooth development by supplying nutrients and oxygen to the surrounding dentin.

Located within the pulp chamber and root canals, the pulp also enables a tooth to sense temperature and pressure. If the pulp becomes inflamed or infected due to deep decay, cracks, or trauma, it can cause severe pain and may require root canal therapy.

While the pulp is essential for a tooth’s early development, a mature tooth can function without it after a root canal. Preserving pulp health through proper oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups helps prevent infections and the need for invasive treatments.
