Short Description
A serious gum infection that damages soft tissue and bone, often leading to tooth loss if untreated.
Long Description
Periodontitis is an advanced stage of gum disease that occurs when untreated gingivitis causes inflammation, infection, and destruction of the bone and ligaments supporting the teeth.
It can lead to deep gum pockets, gum recession, loose teeth, and eventually tooth loss. Common symptoms include bleeding gums, bad breath, and a change in how teeth fit together when biting.
Treatment includes deep cleaning, improved oral hygiene, and in some cases, antibiotics or surgery. Regular dental visits and early treatment of gingivitis are the best defense against periodontitis.
