Short Description
The sharp-edged front teeth used for cutting food, with four in the upper jaw and four in the lower jaw, essential for chewing and speaking.
Long Description
Incisors are the eight front teeth in the human mouth—four in the upper jaw and four in the lower jaw. They have thin, sharp edges designed for cutting and biting into food. Incisors play a critical role in speech, aesthetics, and guiding the bite by maintaining proper alignment.
These teeth are usually the first to emerge in both primary (baby) and permanent dentitions. Central incisors are located in the middle, while lateral incisors are positioned next to them. Their flat, chisel-like shape makes them ideal for slicing food before it reaches the molars for grinding.
Maintaining healthy incisors involves regular brushing, flossing, and avoiding habits like nail-biting or chewing on hard objects, which can cause chips or fractures. Orthodontic treatments may be necessary if incisors are misaligned, crowded, or have gaps, affecting both function and appearance.
