Short Description
The part of the jawbone that surrounds and supports the roots of your teeth.
Long Description
The alveolar bone is the section of the jawbone that contains the tooth sockets, also known as alveoli. It supports and holds the roots of the teeth in place, playing a critical role in oral stability and function.
This bone undergoes natural remodeling throughout life but can deteriorate due to tooth loss, periodontal disease, or trauma. When a tooth is lost, the alveolar bone in that area begins to resorb, or shrink, unless preserved with a graft or implant.
Maintaining healthy gums and bone through good oral hygiene, regular dental visits, and prompt treatment of dental issues is essential to preserving the alveolar bone and preventing long-term complications.
