Short Description
A drill-free technique using air and abrasive particles to remove small areas of decay or stains.
Long Description
Air abrasion (or micro abrasion) is a minimally invasive technique used to remove small areas of tooth decay or surface stains without using a dental drill. It works by blasting a stream of fine abrasive particles, such as aluminum oxide, at the tooth.
This technique is often quieter and more comfortable for patients, especially those with dental anxiety. It is best suited for early-stage cavities, removing white spots, or preparing a tooth for sealants or bonding.
However, it’s not appropriate for deeper cavities or areas requiring anesthesia. Dentists may recommend air abrasion for children or adults with minor enamel defects who prefer a more conservative and gentle treatment option.
